Why Most Website Designers Are Digital Criminals!

If I was asked what is the biggest scam in small to medium business? my answer would be website design.

Let me give you some context here, this week I was contacted by a customer who just recently had a developer build him a new website design.

He wanted to know if I could help him to get his new website design to “work”
See as up until this point he had not made a single sale from his new website, so I agreed to take a look and give him some feedback on what he could do to improve his site.

The first thing I noticed, was that it was a basic website design, nothing too exciting but it was formatted terribly.
Absolutely no thought had gone into customer usability and its primary function.

Now this was no real surprise to my,  as we see this kind of web development all the time.

At this point you are probably wondering why then do I think that this was a scam?

Well the original web developer had charged him $18,000….THAT’S RIGHT EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Now I normally would not have too much of an issue with this price tag providing the product delivered was on par with the price paid.
However in this case I estimate he paid about $17,200 too much.

This “web developer” did not provide any sales copy (the client was left to write it all) no real graphic design work, no video and no care what’s so ever for the client’s needs.

I will not name this developer however I will say that he operates on the Gold Coast, so buyer beware.
I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, however we get at least three or four clients a month coming to us to help them make their new website “work”

You see with platforms such as Dream Weaver, WordPress and now Wix making it easier and easier for UN skilled people to become “website developers” almost overnight.

The market of website developers is becoming increasingly flooded with people trying to make an easy dollar by passing themselves off as web designers. Offering Gold Coast website design to unsuspecting business owners who think they are getting a website built by a professional.

Here are 3 tips when buying a new Gold Coast website design, to help avoid being ripped off.

TIP #1 – When talking to a website designer always ask the question- How exactly will my website convert traffic into leads. ‘Hint it’s not through your contact us page’ Ask them to explain exactly how a site visitor will convert to a lead and why?

TIP #2 – Ask to see testimonials of their work or even speak to some of their previous clients to ensure they have in fact produced the results they are “promising you”.

TIP #3 Talk to a marketing expert about website conversion before taking the word of the website developer.

After all the only reason you lay down your hard earned money on a new Gold Coast website deign is so you can increase your sales and revenue.
