Why the Wrong Marketing Mindset is Costing You Money

Focusing on results instead of cost; is without a doubt the biggest mindset challenge we have with our marketing clients.

In any business and yes, your business too, there are only two things that you can spend money on that are a cost of your business and everything else you spend money on is a cost AGAINST your business.

The two things you can spend money on to improve your organisation are:
1) Innovation – better systems, developing staff, digital marketing, more efficient machinery etc.
2) Marketing – getting new customers, getting customers to spend more and more often etc.

Now I can hear the outrage in your voice right now: “But if I don’t pay my rent and power I can’t stay in business”
That is true BUT when you pay your rent, do your sales go up? When you pay your power bill, do your profits magically grow? Every time you pay an employee, do they become more productive?

The answer to all these questions is NO.

Every other cost is such as rent, power and wages only serve to maintain your business, yet only innovation and marketing are costs that can IMPROVE your business.

From this vantage point, it is staggering to us, how hard it is to get our clients to focus on the results of their digital marketing rather than the cost.

Your question should never be How much will my digital marketing cost to do XYZ?”
It should always be “How much will I make from my digital marketing? What return will I get on my investment in this innovation?”

After all, who cares if it costs $100,000, as long as it makes you a million dollars in profit, right?!
Yet business owners still seem to struggle with this concept and are constantly reluctant to spend money on improving their business, but will blindly spend more and more just to maintain their current position.
Even if their current situation is not working or profitable!!

Ask yourself: Are you focusing on the results or costs? Are you focusing on simply maintaining your business or are you focused on GROWING it?

Remember when thinking about Digital Marketing – “You can’t build a million dollars with a two-dollar mindset”
